Thomas L. Acker, Ph.D., President
Dr. Tom Acker is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Northern Arizona University (NAU), where he has been since 1996. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, and is Director of NAU’s Sustainable Energy Solutions Group. He teaches and performs research related to renewable and clean energy systems. His specific areas of expertise include grid integration of renewable energy, assessing the variability of solar PV and wind energy resources, wind turbine aerodynamics and wind flow modeling, wind and solar energy resource assessment, Native American applications of renewable energy, agricultural/energy projects, and broader energy system evaluation and analysis. He also participates in education and outreach programs regionally and internationally, and was the “Operating Agent” (i.e. manager) of an International Energy Agency task addressing wind and hydropower integration.
William M. Auberle, P.E., BCEE, Treasurer
Bill Auberle has more than 40 years experience in environmental engineering and management. His expertise includes environmental policy and permitting processes, air quality engineering, environmental risk assessment and management, and site investigation and remediation. Bill is the is a Principal of EN3 Professionals Inc a consulting firm specializing in engineering, environmental and energy needs of corporate, governmental, tribal & legal clients.
Bill remains active as a Professor Emeritus at Northern Arizona University. His continuing university service includes the Landsward Institute & Foundation, the NAU/EPA American Indian Air Quality Training Program, and the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals. Bill is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Renewable Energy Institute.
Previously, Bill was President of the national environmental consulting firm of Yates & Auberle, Ltd. In this capacity he directed professionals in the disciplines of environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, hydrogeology, and environmental monitoring and analysis.
Bill also has served governmental agencies as an author and administrator of environmental laws and regulations. He has directed programs in air quality management, water pollution control, radiation protection, noise control, and solid/hazardous waste management. In 1978 and 1979, he managed all environmental protection programs for the State of Colorado.
Bill’s baccalaureate degree in industrial engineering and masters degree in environmental engineering were earned at West Virginia University. He continued graduate studies at Columbia University and the University of Missouri. He is a Fellow Member and Past Vice President of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) and is board certified by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE). He is a licensed professional engineer in Arizona, Louisiana and Ohio. Bill continues to make numerous presentations at meetings and conferences and contributes many publications in environmental science and engineering.
Amanda S. Ormond, Board Member
Amanda Ormond has worked in energy and public policy for over twenty years in Arizona and the West. For the past decade she has managed the Ormond Group LLC, a consulting firm that specializes in education, advocacy, and lobbying for clean energy. Prior to starting her consulting firm Amanda served as Director of the Arizona Energy Office for seven years where she was responsible for developing state policy and promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy and alternative fueled vehicles. She also held various positions at the state energy office, a division of the Arizona Department of Commerce. Amanda holds a B.S. in Environmental Earth Science. She works for a variety of public and private clients to expand the use of clean energy in the West.
